Sixteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema is bringing a feature film adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway production Hairspray to life. Based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the movie includes some new and original materials.

Tracey Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion – dancing. Her dream is realized when she wins a spot on a local TV dance program, which is transformed overnight from outsider to teen celebrity. But can a trendsetter in dance and fashion defeat the program’s reigning princess, win the heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate television without messing up her hairdo? Only in the musical version of the John Waters cult classic, HAIRSPRAY!

The movie is as light and feathery, but messages about self-confidence are slipped in, along with bolder statements about tolerance and racial equality. Hairspray is an energetic, wholly entertaining musical romp; a fun summer movie with plenty of heart.
