Weekend Movie Watch

Weekends are here, the time of the week when you don’t have to answer to your arrogant boss. Grab the remote controller to your DVD player and be your own boss for today!
Here are two good movies you might enjoy.

The Simpsons Movie

Genre: Comedy
Running time: 87 min.
Director: David Silverman
Producer(s): Mike Scully, Richard Sakai
Screenplay: James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Al Jean, Ian Maxtone-Graham, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Mike Scully, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder, Jon Vitti
Cast: Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer

In the eagerly-awaited film based on the hit television series, Homer must save the world from a catastrophe he himself created. It all begins with Homer, his new pet pig, and a leaky silo full of droppings - a combination that triggers a disaster the likes of which Springfield has never experienced. As Marge is outraged by Homer's monumental blunder, a vengeful mob descends on the Simpson household. The family makes a narrow escape, but is soon divided by both location and conflict. Having alienated everyone with his idiocy, Homer must prove himself a hero: "Risking my life—to save people I hate—for reasons I don't really understand."

As the fates of Springfield and the world hang in the balance, Homer embarks on a personal odyssey of redemption - seeking forgiveness from Marge, the reunion of his splintered family, and the salvation of his hometown.

The little miracle of the movie is that this plays out at four times the length without giving you a head ache. The film finds its own pace, and it keeps its personality. It doesn't try to be ruder or kinkier, just bigger and better.

Rescue Dawn

Genre: Action
Running time: 126 min.
Director: Werner Herzog
Studio: MGM Pictures
Producer(s): Elton Brand, Freddy Braidy, Steve Marlton
Screenplay: Werner Herzog
Cast: Christian Bale, Steve Zahn, Jeremy Davies, Pat Healy, Toby Huss

During the Vietnam War, German-born Dieter Dengler (Christian Bale), a U.S. fighter pilot, is shot down over Laos and taken captive by enemy soldiers. Interned in a POW camp, he and his fellow prisoners (Steve Zahn, Jeremy Davies) endure torture, hunger and illness while they await their chance to escape. Dengler has no intention of sticking around the nightmarish camp, so he begins to dream up an escape plan that takes his fellow prisoners by surprise with its savvy and audacity. Dengler doesn't even know where he is--but he knows with unwavering certainty that he must not stop fighting for his life. As he makes his way into the jungle, his journey will never let up, as it takes him from the bonds of fraternity to the brink of despair, to one of the most remarkable rescues in modern history.
