Sitting all right

Adopting a proper posture is important for everyone, especially if you're one of those who have to sit at their work desk 9 to 5. If you're not careful enough, sitting at your desk all day in a slouched position can result into a chronic back pain, headaches and breathing problems. With your belly protruding outwards and your back arched like a bow, you certainly do not look attractive! Good posture not only enhances your appearance but is also reduces the risk of arthritis, prevents muscular pain and keeps your joints in their correct alignment. A good posture also raises ones confidence level. So stop delaying and learn how to maintain your body posture while sitting down. It's time to get to work!

Sitting in at your desk is no easy task, considering that you want to maintain that proper body posture. While sitting at your desk all day, it's easy to forget all about your body posture when you're too engrossed in your work. As a result you slouch without realizing it.

While seated, whether it be your office desk, the seat of your car or any other seat; it is desirable to maintain an S shaped curve with your spine. You can achieve this pretty easily if you have one of those ergonomic chairs, so better invest in one of those or ask your boss if you could have one of those. However, if you're not that lucky, better learn the feel of the proper posture and take care of your self. Here's how.

While you seat your self on your chair, roll up a small towel and place it between your lower back and the back of your chair. Next, notice where the weight falls. The weight should be evenly distributed on both hips. Shift about in your chair until it feels just right.

Don't lean forward, sit back and rest your lower back right against the back of the chair. If you need to, move your chair closer to your desk. Keep your neck straight too. Your legs should be flat on the floor and your knees bent at a healthy 90 degrees. If you're positioned right, your arms should be at right angles with the ground. Adjust the height of your seat until you achieve this.
