Avoiding some common fashion mistakes men make

Yes, men are from mars, and when it comes to dressing up, men are from different parts of the planet itself. The heterosexual men outdo their counterparts when it comes to dressing up right.

You needn’t be a heterosexual male to know the basics of dressing properly. Here are some pointers you can follow and avoid some of the common dressing mistakes most men make.

  • Never make the mistake of wearing a tie with a short sleeve shirt. You’ll end up looking like a kid or a lower class employee.
  • A properly knotted tie should have “dimple” under the knot. The tie should be worn long enough so it just about reaches the belt line. If you’ve wondered where all the clips and tacks have gone, be informed that they’re all out of date.
  • Belts and suspenders both serve the same purpose, to hold up your pants. So there is no sense in wearing both at once, unless you want to appear ridiculously insecure.
  • Trousers should be long enough to cover your socks and the heel of your shoe. Socks should cover your shins even when you cross you legs.
  • A general rule to follow is - socks should match your trousers and belts should match your shoes. Do not wear socks with sandals, socks are meant to be worn with shoes.
  • It is said you can tell a lot about a man by the shoe he wears. Invest in a couple of good pairs and make sure they’re always neat and clean and well coordinated with the rest of your apparels.
  • Limit each of your outfits to just one to three colors or shades to give you a simple coordinated look. Don't over do it. Stick to complementary and analogous colors and remember that less is always better.
