6 must dos for a healthier life 


 
It’s not necessary that you be a regular member at a health club for better health. When ideally that may be desirable trait, in reality that might be a tall order to follow. For those who want to stay healthy without actually breaking the joint, here are a list you should incorporate in your daily lives. 

1. Keep moving
Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. 

2. Cut fat
Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. 

3. Quit smoking and excessive drinking
Cigarette smoking is injurious to health, and so is excessive drinking. That’s something that you already knew, but need to be reminded time and time again. Try cutting a cigarette a day till you’re free of the nicotine stick. Limit your drinking to a healthy a glass of wine a day.

4. Reduce Stress
Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like, like soaking in a hot tub, a walk in the park, read a good book or listen to soothing music. You can learn to meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible.
 
5. Breathe clean
If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low.
 
6. Keep a Positive Mental Outlook
There's a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. You can't be unhappy when you're smiling or singing.
