Exfoliating skin

Even during the cold months of the winter, the skin needs to be exfoliated at times. The skin regardless of it being dry, oily or normal needs to be rejuvenated regularly. But doing about it in a careless manner can over process your skin can cause breakouts. If you have normal skin should not be exfoliated more than twice a week.

If your skin is dry or sensitive, you might want to preserve the natural oils by not washing your face before you exfoliate. Dry and sensitive skins should not be exfoliated any more than once a week or every other week. Very gentle scrubs should be used and the scrubbing is best when limited to less than thirty to sixty seconds. Look for products that contain smaller, smoother granules and light, easily absorbable oils, such as saffron, canola, or grape seed. Avoid high concentrations of salts and citrus fruit acid, which can aggravate sensitive, sunburned, or chapped skin. Finish off with a soothing moisturizer that contains aloe, chamomile, or lavender.

Those with oily or acne-prone skin should remember that exfoliating is designed to remove dead skin cells on the surface and not oil, bacteria, makeup, and dirt stuck deep inside pores. Do not fall for the belief that scrubbing your face long and hard is the solution to your acne or your oily skin. Doing so has adverse effects as it’ll worsen the problem by opening up the skin to irritation, infection, and maybe even scarring. Try scrubs with fruit acids and enzymes, which help control oily skin and unclog pores. After exfoliating, rinse with cold water to close pores.
