Shangri-La Cricket Academy

What began as a group game using a bat, a ball and a few sticks, around 500 years ago, cricket has gone on to become the 3rd most popular sport in the world.

A widely known sport today that originated in England, around the 13th century, today, the only sports that can challenge cricket in popularity are soccer and basketball. Closer to home, in the Indian subcontinent, it’s the national game for the billion people who eat, breathe and sleep cricket.

Always looking to improve its global credentials, cricket in Nepal looks to be knocking at an open door. The game is followed religiously and has a considerable fan following.

And with national cricket team’s commendable performance in the international arena, the professional viability of the game is increasing amongst youth. And for the cricket enthusiasts in Kathmandu, the place to be is Shangri-La Cricket Academy.

Designed for aspiring young cricketers, the academy provides first class training, in an exciting environment for a limited number of players. And meeting with the demand, the academy has recently extended a new branch at Lamatar.

The Cricket Center at Lamatar is to host this year’s winter camp (December 10 – January 2011).

In a statement released, the academy expressed its gratitude towards Mr Shyam Kakashapati, the founder of Shuvatara School, for allocating the ground to run the cricket centre.

“We are very pleased to have Jack Dent, junior coach and an ‘A’ cricketer from
Australia, in our team. I’m sure Jack’s input combined with Dipendra Chaudhary and Manoj Baishya will be fruitful,” shared Aamir Akhtar, the director of Shangri-La Cricket Academy.

In a press release, it was informed the academy would also be focusing on Cricket Entrepreneurship program in 2011. The academy aims to congregate various cricketers from various regions to get into the program. Its main objective is to open as many cricket centers around the country as possible for running cricket clinics, winter camps in different regions by supplying cricketing gears, garments etc.
